Playing to a scoreless tie in the opening half, it took only a little while before Tenino finally got on the board against Onalaska in a 2-0 win Thursday evening.
The Beavers (2-0) pressed the attack, and nearly put a few goals on the board in the first half, but to no avail. Tenino head coach Kevin Schultz went out of his way to compliment the Loggers defense, singling out keeper Alex Cleveland-Barrera, in particular.
The senior Logger finished with 10 saves, and kept the explosive Beavers off the board until the 52nd minute, when Abby Severse finally broke through off an assist from Megan Letts. The senior forward has now scored three goals in two games to start the year for Tenino.
The Beavers doubled their lead in the 63rd minute, when senior midfielder Grace Vestal put the ball through the back of the net thanks to a great pass from Severse through the Logger back line.
While the Beavers offense was busy scoring goals in the second half, junior keeper Trinity Tafoya and the Beaver defense kept the Loggers off the board. Tafoya finished with three saves, and Schultz made sure to compliment his defenders, Andee Schaffran and Ashley Schow, who didn’t let the Logger forwards run behind them for easy goals.
Tenino will head out to Ocosta next on Saturday, where they’ll spend some time at the beach before taking on the Wildcats (1-0).
