Free Tax Preparation Services Scheduled at Yelm Timberland Library

Volunteers from Thurston County AARP Foundation Tax-Aide will provide free tax preparation services to people of all ages and income levels at the Yelm Timberland Library.

The services will be provided on Tuesdays from Feb. 7 through April 18.

“Our volunteers are trained and IRS certified,” stated a news release from the organization. “We can prepare and e-file most Federal Individual Income Tax Returns and make sure taxpayers claim the tax refund, credits and deductions they have earned.”

There are some limits on the types of returns the volunteers can prepare.

“Our volunteers must stay within the scope of tax law and policies set by the IRS and AARP Foundation and our training,” stated the release. “For example, we cannot prepare returns for self-employed taxpayers who have employees, losses, or expenses that exceed $35,000. We also are not allowed to prepare returns for taxpayers that own virtual currency or who are in bankruptcy.”

In addition to the Yelm Timberland Library, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers will assist taxpayers at five other locations in Thurston County, which include the Lacey Senior Center, the Lacey Timberland Library, the Olympia Community Center, Panorama and the Tumwater Timberland Library.

Days and hours of services vary by site.

Appointments are required and can be made by calling the appointment line at 360-474-3869. People can also make their own appointment online at taxaidewa20.org/online, or by visiting one of Tax-Aide sites when they are open.

When taxpayers schedule an appointment, they will be sent a link to a pre-appointment packet which has further information. The information includes the forms the taxpayer must complete prior to the appointment and the tax documents that are needed to prepare a return.

To learn more, taxpayers can go online to taxaidewa20.org.
