Eatonville’s Comeback Downs Rainier

Posted

Rainier started the night off hot offensively, but Eatonville ended it hotter, dropping 26 points in the fourth quarter to come back and beat the Mountaineers 69-62 on Saturday in a non-league matchup.

Eatonville’s Walker Bruun scored 11 of his game-high 29 points in the final period, and the Cruisers went 8 for 9 from the free-throw line down the stretch to seal the win.

Jimmy Meldrum did his best to match the Cruisers shot-for-shot as the guests roared back in the second half, burying five 3-pointers in the latter two quarters. Johnny Boesch added a triple of his own in the fourth, as the Mountaineers came back offensively after scoring just 21 points across the middle two period, but the Cruisers had just a bit more in the tank.

Rainier put in 23 points in the first quarter, led by 10 from Hunter Howell, who finished with 12. Jimmy Meldrum paced the hosts with 22 points, and Josh Meldrum added 10. Hunter Owen scored eight.

The Mountaineers will host a key Central 2B League showdown Tuesday, against Toutle Lake.
