Thurston County deputies and Olympia police on Monday captured a suspect accused of evading multiple law enforcement agencies across two counties in a stolen Home Depot van.
In a Facebook post, Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said deputies joined the Napavine Police Department in pursuit after the suspect continued into Thurston County on Interstate 5.
According to Sanders, the Washington State Patrol and other Lewis County law enforcement assisted in the chase, which was stopped after the suspect exited toward downtown Olympia.
Olympia police later saw the suspect park the van and flee on foot.
Deputies and officers found the suspect hiding behind a trash can, Sanders said.
The sheriff said the suspect, whose identity has yet to be released, was transferred to Lewis County law enforcement.
“Great work by deputies and sergeants who showcased exceptionally balanced decision making consistent with our training, policy, procedures, and expectations,” Sanders said.
According to the sheriff, the suspect is wanted for alleged burglary in Clark County and alleged theft in Lewis County.
