The Veterans Cup Golf Tournament
VFW Post 5580 and Auxiliary VFW Post 5580 will host the annual Veterans Cup Golf Tournament at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, at Tahoma Valley Golf Course. Tickets are available for purchase at https://tinyurl.com/VeteransCupYelm. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit both of the veterans organizations.

Scouting America Troop 9268 turns 100
Join Scouting America Troop 9268 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Yelm City Park and Yelm Community Center for a full day of celebration. According to Scouting America Troop 9268 Scoutmaster Jeff Kasnick, cake will be cut and handed out to attendees, along with a proclamation from Mayor Joe DePinto in celebration of the troop. Additionally, other local Scouting America troops have been invited to “share in the brotherhood of scouting” during the celebration next month.
Movies in the Park:
How to Train Your Dragon
The annual Yelm Lions Club tradition of Movies in the Park will return to Longmire Park this summer, with its first rendition set to begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 27. The movie being shown that evening will be How to Train Your Dragon. The event is free, and the movie itself will begin at dusk.

Evergreen Fest: local youth music festival
The City of Yelm will host Evergreen Fest, a local youth music festival, at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, at Yelm City Park. The free event will celebrate the musical talent throughout the Nisqually Valley region, including performances from local artists. Admission into the event is free, and food trucks will be on-site with a bite to eat and a beverage available for purchase.

Stars and Stripes Revolutionary Road
Celebrate the 249th anniversary of the American Flag with the City of Yelm at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Yelm Community Center, located at 301 2nd St. SE. The Sons of the American Revolution and George Rogers Clark Chapter, Olympia are responsible for the accuracy of the program, which will be presented by Arthur Dolan. The event is free for the public to attend.
Monday, Sept. 14
The World’s Greatest Breakup Letter
Join the City of Yelm and presenter Arthur Dolan at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, at the Yelm Community Center for the presentation of “The World’s Greatest Breakup Letter: The Declaration of Independence.” Dolan will help the audience discover the story behind the Declaration of Independence through a fast-paced program that culminates in a reading of the original document.
