City Hires Three to Fill Staffing Needs

The city of Yelm has hired three new individuals to fill a variety of staffing needs in a couple of its new departments.

The hiring comes in the wake of Yelm Community Development Director Grant Beck’s approaching retirement this fall, among other retirements, which prompted the city to restructure.

The first new hire comes in for the new community services department.

Savana Cervantes, a former Ridgeline Middle School employee, Saint Martin’s University graduate and a six-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, will be joining the department as an administrative assistant starting Aug. 2.

The new public services department will see the remaining two hires: Sara Williams and Landon Hawes.

Williams is a graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and is bringing her knowledge of urban planning, transportation planning and planning systems to Yelm. She will serve in the role of assistant planner for the department starting Aug. 2.

Hawes, a graduate of University of Southern California majoring in urban planning, will join the department from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and will bring five years of planning experience with him to fill the role of planning and building manager for the city, also starting Aug. 2.

Earlier this year, the community development department combined with the public works department to create the new public services department, which is overseen by Cody Colt.

Yelm also created its new community services department by combining employees in customer service and public communication.
