Candidates File for Upcoming Elections During Filing Week

There were 132 people who filed for 75 offices in Thurston County during filing week, which spanned from May 15 to May 19.

For races with three or more candidates, the August primary is set for Aug. 1. The top two people in the primary election, and other races with two candidates, will compete in the Nov. 7 general election.

The position of Thurston County District No. 4 Commissioner will be on the ballot as Vivian Eason, an independent from Tumwater, and Wayne Fournier, a Democrat from Tenino, filed.

The position of Thurston County District No. 5 Commissioner will feature four candidates during the primary election. The candidate field includes Sarah Morris, an independent, Michael Stedman, a Democrat, Terry S. Ballard, who stated no political preference, and Emily Clouse, a Democrat.

The remaining candidates’ political parties were not stated in the voters pamphlet.

Rainier City Council position No. 2 will be a part of the primary election and features three candidates. The field includes Damion Green, Ryan Roth and Kirby McDonald.

Ron Kemp’s bid for Rainier City Council position No. 4 and will be on the November ballot.

David Watterson and Linda Gotovac have announced their bid for the mayor of Tenino. The two candidates will be featured during the general election in November.

Elaine Klamn is currently unopposed in her bid for position No. 2 on the Tenino City Council.

Yelm City Council positions No. 1, 2, and 6 are up for election.

Position No. 1 has candidates Stephanie Kangiser and Tracey Wood facing off during the general election. Position No. 6 will also be decided during the general election as Ashley Lea Brooks and Trevor Palmer filed for the position, while position No. 2 will be on the August ballot and features candidates Joseph Richardson, Shaun M. Keane and Jerry Toompas.



Aaron Lang is currently unopposed in his race for the position of Rainier School Board director for district No. 1.

Jerry F. Sprouffske and Jon Palmer are running for the Rainier School Board director for district No. 2.

The Rainier School Board races wrap up as Dana Morgan Spivey and Brian Hackethal filed for the school board director position for District No. 3. All three Rainier School Board races will take place during the general election.

Adam Barr (District No. 3) and Jessica Reeves-Rush (District No. 4) will run unopposed in their race for Tenino School Board director positions.

Ryan T. Hilton and Jennifer Johnson announced their bid for the Tenino School Board director No. 2 position. This race will also be decided during the general election.

Yelm Community Schools saw several candidates file for three school board positions.

Eric Heid and Casey Shaw filed for district No. 2, while Allyn Verbal and Denise Hendrickson are up for election for district No. 3.

Bill Hauss, Linda Hale and Karen (Kay) Anderson each entered their name for the position of the director of district No. 5 on the school board.

Harry Miller will run opposed for the position of fire commissioner position No. 1 with the Bald Hills Fire District.

Jeff Dehan and David Shepherd will run for the position of Sub Region 1 fire commissioner position No. 1 for Southeast Thurston Fire Authority, while Bill DeVore and Steven Slater will run unopposed. DeVore is running for Position No. 1 as Sub Region 3 fire commissioner, while Slater filed for Position No. 2.

Kristen Colt will run unopposed for cemetery commissioner position No. 3.
