A Black Hills High School student was arrested last week for allegedly having drugs and a gun in his car at school.

The Tumwater Police Department’s School Resource Officer was dispatched to Black Hills High School the morning of April 2 after school administration reported allegations that a student had sold vapes to other students in the school parking lot.

The School Resource Officer responded to investigate, and it was determined the student did not have a gun or drugs in his possession in the building, according to the Tumwater Police Department.

With consent from the car’s owner, the officer searched the student’s car and recovered a firearm, cash, vape products, and narcotics.

The student was arrested and booked at Thurston County Youth Services for unlawful possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver and unlawful possession of a firearm.

“Additional charges will be referred to the Thurston County Prosecutor’s Office at the conclusion of the investigation when it is completed,” the Tumwater Police Department stated.

Police have determined that at no time were students or staff threatened with a weapon, nor was it displayed while on campus.

“We appreciate the swift response by the Tumwater School District, and the collaboration to come to a quick resolution,” the Tumwater Police Department stated.
