Between Sisters Boutique Reopens in New Location

Between Sisters Boutique recently celebrated the re-opening of its store in a new location at 1202 E. Yelm Ave.

The shop originally opened on March 6, 2020, with mother in-law Heidi Potter and daughter-in-law Nanette Potter at the helm.

The grand re-opening of the store was held on Friday, Jan. 6 and featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The store was “extremely busy” on Friday and Saturday following the re-opening, the owners stated, which made the two feel grateful for the support they received from the community.

Nanette said the Between Sisters Boutique outgrew its original location at a fast rate.

“The new location was something we always wanted to grow. We feel like there’s a lot better visibility, which is great for retail,” Heidi said. “We really enjoyed where we were at for our first three years, but this opportunity presented itself to us. It was something we really wanted, the timing was right, and so we took the leap.”

Heidi said that before Between Sisters Boutique opened in 2020, she had a consignment store in the same location called Between Sisters. She was there from 2012 to 2015, before she retired from retail.

“My sister, who has a high end consignment store, gave me inspiration and gave me a lot of hand me downs to get started,” Heidi said.

Her retirement didn’t last long, as Nanette came to Heidi with the idea of opening a boutique store. It took some convincing, but eventually they became business partners and opened Between Sisters Boutique.

“We just resurrected Between Sisters, but in a whole new way,” Heidi said. “It’s retail, it’s a boutique, we have local goods, too. It’s a very different branding than our first time around.”

Between Sisters Boutique offers a wide variety of goods at their store, including women’s clothing, unique special occasion gifts, locally made goods like soaps and candles, and different accessories. The two said they’d like to eventually offer children’s clothing at the store.

Going forward, Heidi said she would like the boutique to participate in or host more events for the community. They’re also working on expanding their online presence.

Nanette said the boutique is big on pop-up events and trunk shows for other local and small businesses. She added the new location will allow the store to continue to host more collaborative events like After Hours, but at a larger scale.

“We wanted to create a space for people to come and relax, and never feel the pressure to buy but to feel inspired,” Heidi said. “We wanted to create a space where if we were going to go somewhere, how we would want to feel. We would want to feel welcomed and cared about. We just want to create a warm environment.”

The Potters have felt the love and support from the community in an impactful way.

Heidi said they regularly say thank you to the community, because the store wouldn’t be there without the community’s support.

“After going through the pandemic, we really felt the support and love of being a local business. When stores opened back up, our community went to all the local stores. We felt it and appreciate it,” Heidi said. “It’s because of the community and their support why we’re here, and why we’re growing and flourishing. We love the relationships and interactions with our customers. This is honestly a place where customers become good friends. We have found some of the nicest people and very dear friends just by having our store here.”

Between Sisters Boutique is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. They’re closed on Sundays.
