The margin of defeat over the last four games have dwindled, but the Tenino High School girls basketball team came up just short again on Thursday night, falling to Mary M. Knight 50-47 in a non-league contest at home.

Tenino’s losing streak extends to four games and the last two have been by single digits. It was up four at halftime, then the Owls chipped away with 17 in the third and 14 in the fourth to hold on for the win.

Kylie Gonia showed out for the Beavers with a team-best 20 points. They made 12 field goals – four of them from deep – and were 11-of-20 from the free throw line.

“Tough loss tonight,” Tenino head coach Kirsi Gofinch said. “Love seeing us have a better scoring night, but we’ve got to take care of the ball. Our guards really got after it on defense.”

Tenino (1-6) will look to snap its skid on Tuesday versus Vashon Island.
