Bearcats Remain Unbeaten With Win Over River Ridge

Drea Brumfield erupted for a game-high 23 points, one of three double-digit scorers for W.F. West, as the Bearcats won their third-straight with a 60-35 road win over Class 3A River Ridge Thursday.

Brumfield drained 20 of her points in the second half to hold off a speedy River Ridge squad.

“Drea had some really nice finishes in transition,” W.F. West coach Kyle Karnofski said. “She was phenomenal in the second half.”

Morgan Rogerson added a career-high 12 points, scoring eight of the Bearcats’ 19 first-quarter points, including six of their first nine of the game. Mak Mencke also had a career-high of 11, which included three first-half 3-pointers.

“Mak was pretty good in transition and was big for us off the bench,” Karnofski said.

Senior Madi Mencke tallied six points, Kyla McCallum four and Olivia Remund and Carlie Deskins each scored two.

The Bearcats led 29-16 at the half then used a 15-8 run in the third quarter to pull away from Hawks for good.

“They’re very scrappy and really, really fast,” Karnofski said of River Ridge. “You could tell we were a little gassed after playing three games in four days.”

W.F. West (3-0) hits the road again to finish off the week with a match against Aberdeen (1-1) on Friday.
