Anytime Fitness to host Thanksgiving ‘Turkey Trot’

Posted

Before families sit around the table to eat their Thanksgiving meal, Anytime Fitness is offering a holiday-morning activity for all families and community members to enjoy: its annual Turkey Trot event.

Check-ins for the Turkey Trot begin at 8 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 23, with the actual 5-kilometer race starting at 9 p.m. Participants will meet at the Yelm Community Center before walking across the street to the Yelm-Rainier-Tenino Trail to begin the run. There will be a raffle for participants at 8:30 a.m. A halfway point will be set up for runners/walkers, and volunteers with the gym will provide the water.

Participants can arrive and run for free, but people who pre-register for $30 will receive a T-shirt and raffle ticket. To register, people should call 360-400-3880 or go into Anytime Fitness, 1304 E. Yelm Ave.

Funds raised from the event will be donated to the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System to benefit disabled or homeless veterans.

“We chose them because one of our coaches here has gone through their system and saw how under-funded it is,” Anytime Fitness manager Dalton Sheehan. “Also, we want to support our vets when we get a chance to do so.”

Sheehan described the event as a good way to develop community, get families out of the house before sitting at the table, reduce stress from holiday cooking and more.

“Community is everything to us. Everything we work toward and do here is with the idea of building a strong community that helps and supports each other,” Sheehan said. “We started this as a way to build community and get more people active throughout all the craziness of the holiday season.”

Sheehan said Anytime Fitness is thankful to event sponsors Bliss Experience, Shaves and Blades, Mat Magik, Bejoyful Holistics, Safeway and Shine Specialties.
