17 Tornados named to 4A SPSL all-league team

Bol Bol named DL of the year; eight athletes make first team

Though the Yelm High School Tornados saw their football season end early after a 24-20 loss to the Richland Bombers in the 4A district playoffs, the team cleaned up in 4A South Puget Sound League honors as 17 Tornados were recognized.

Atop the list for Yelm was senior Bol Bol, a senior defensive lineman and Boise State commit, who earned the title of Defensive Lineman of the Year in the 4A SPSL. The future Bronco finished his season with 74 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and nine sacks.

Four Tornados were named to the first team all-SPSL offense, including juniors Parker Myers, quarterback, and Jacob Ford, wide receiver. Myers finished his first season at the helm of the offense with 1,863 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He also rushed for 497 yards and an additional 11 touchdowns. Ford caught 50 passes on the season for 766 yards and five touchdowns. As a running back, he added 128 yards and three touchdowns to his statline and an additional 265 yards as a special teams returner. He totaled 1,159 scrimmage yards on the season.

Two Tornados linemen, Boise State commit Jacob Tracy and future United States Airman Shane Creegan, were also named to the first team all-SPSL. The two helped pave the way for 1,749 rushing yards and a total of 3,758 offensive yards as a unit.

Four YHS football players made the first team all-SPSL defense, including a duo of defensive linemen — junior Jonah Smith and senior Chris Hauss. Smith finished his season with 69 tackles, including 11 tackles for loss and four sacks from the nose tackle position. Hauss finished his final season in red and black with 66 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and four sacks.



Senior Ethan Owens, a first-year starter for the Tornados, made the first team all-SPSL list as a linebacker. He concluded his final season in Yelm with 59 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions and a pair of fumble recoveries. Sophomore Maurice Williams also made the first team all-SPSL defense as a defensive back. Williams concluded his season with two interceptions, 15 tackles and two tackles for loss.

Four Tornados made the all-SPSL second team, including freshman running back Marcus Ronquillo, who led Yelm in rushing in 2024 with 543 yards. He was joined by two specialists, junior kicker Sterling Temple and senior punter Jameson Patin. Temple was 4 of 5 on field goal attempts throughout the season and 33 of 38 on extra points. Patin pinned five punts inside the 20-yard line in 2024 and had a personal best of a 70-yard punt this season.

Gunner Westbrooks, senior defensive back, also made the all-SPSL second team on defense. He finished his final high school campaign with 27 tackles and three interceptions. Junior Daniel Mendoza was also named to the all-SPSL team as a special teams player.

An additional five Tornados were named to the all-SPSL honorable mention list, including senior running back Nathan Ford, Patin as a wide receiver, junior wide receiver Jay Sumich and senior offensive lineman Hauss. Tonye Penn, junior, made the honorable mention list as a defensive back.
