Friday’s game against Kalama was a heartbreaker for the Rainier Mountaineers baseball program, as they lost the lead late in a 9-7 defeat, resulting in their first loss of the season.
The game was tied at seven with Kalama batting in the top of the eighth when Brady Vance singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Rainier collected seven hits and Kalama had 14 in the high-scoring affair.
The Mountaineers got on the board in the second inning. An error scored one run for Rainier.
The Mountaineers knotted the game up at seven in the bottom of the seventh inning. Maceyo Brown hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring one run.
Rainier put up three runs in the third inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Zach Lofgren and Brown.
Kalama scored four runs in the fifth inning.
Brennon Vance was on the pitcher’s mound for Kalama. He went two innings, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out five and walking one.
Ricky Cruse toed the rubber for the Mountaineers. He allowed eight hits and six runs over five innings, striking out one. Lofgren threw three innings out of the bullpen.
Cruse started the game for Rainier. He went five innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out one.
Lofgren led the Mountaineers with three hits in three at bats.
