CHIMACUM — Tenino’s defense pitched a shutout to lead the Beavers to a 31-6 win over Chimacum in a non-league football game here on Friday night.
Shawn Nicholson carried the load for Tenino with 19 carries for 201 yards and a touchdown. Aiden Wright was 15-of-22 for 190 yards with two touchdowns throwing and one on the ground. Paxton Russell was the leading receiver with seven catches for 78 yards and a score.
“Kids played really hard. It was a little slow starting in the beginning but we ended up taking the game over and doing what they needed to do to get the win,” Tenino coach Cary Nagel said.
Tenino put up 12 points in the first quarter on scores by Nicholson and Wright on the ground. Wright found Russell on a touchdown pass in the second quarter for an 18-0 lead at intermission.
Russell ran in a score and Wright found Gavin Watson for the final score of the night.
Nagel commended the performances of Nicholson running the ball and the play of his defense for not allowing a Chimacum offensive score. The Cowboys only touchdown came from the defense, an 85-yard interception return in the second quarter.
Tenino (1-1) hosts Castle Rock next Friday in a non-league contest.
