The Yelm High School softball team came away from the 2019 season with a bevy of awards to go along with its second place finish in the 3A State Championships.
To start, the South Sound Conference named senior Tayelyn Cutler player of the year. As for first team honors, junior Hailey Brown, senior Taylor Gubser and junior Maddie Plevyak were named, while the conference tagged freshman Elena Castanon and senior Calli Jesmer for second team. Freshman Molly Embrey and junior Savannah Hyder were honorable mentions.
“It’s just an honor to be recognized,” Yelm Coach Lindsay Walton said. “To have that many girls be selected from our South Sound Conference goes to show that we had a strong program this year.”
The Olympian also named Cutler player of the year, while The News Tribune honored Plevyak and Brown with first team infield and Gubser with second team all-area catcher.
In addition, The Olympian named Walton coach of the year.
“I just love what I do,” she said. “I don’t do it for the recognition. I do it because I love coaching and I love working with the girls. The culture we have created in the program makes it a joy to come back each spring.”
