Police arrested a transient man Dec. 20 after finding him hiding 8 feet up in a tree after an altercation with a theft prevention employee at Walmart. The man was seen in the store acting suspicious so the employee started tailing him. As he fled the store with several stolen items, the employee attempted to confront the man and he threw the stolen items at the employee and took off. He was seen hiding behind a vehicle and when the employee continued to watch him and call police, the man pulled a knife out of his pocket, opened it and ran toward the employee. He ran off after the employee fled and police located him north of the Walmart in a tree. He was taken into custody and told police he’d stolen the items with the intent of returning them in a few days for cash. He told police he never opened the knife but had hoped if he pulled it the employee would stop following him.
