On April 27 at about 3:30 a.m. an officer witnessed a car driving 50 mph in a 25 mph zone on Cullens Road. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which continued on to Crystal Springs Road and then onto Canal Road, speeds reached 80 mph at some points. The officer attempted a PIT maneuver near the Nisqually Pines without success. The chase continued through the neighborhood and the driver hit a speed bump and, according to the officer, it appeared as if the engine blew. The vehicle started to smoke, and oil rushed from underneath. The driver took off on foot and a homeowner shortly after told police he saw the driver hiding by his truck. After detaining the 30-year-old McKenna man, he told police he took the car from the Walmart parking lot and was in possession of a shaved key. The vehicle was the same one involved in a pursuit April 22 where the driver had eluded police.
