John Gibbs Thompson, Jr., 70, of Dallas and formerly of Yelm, Washington, passed away on May 22, 2019, due to a massive heart attack.
John was born in Dallas, Texas, on March 10, 1949, and was preceded in death by his father, John Gibbs Thompson, Sr., his mother, Malvina Burke Thompson, and his sister Rebecca Thompson Nobles.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Terri Thompson, his beloved daughter Lisa Thompson Roossien and her husband Dennis, his beloved son Jeff Thompson and his wife Laura, and five grandchildren; Sean Roossien, Adam Roossien, Avery Roossien, Piper Thompson and Luke Thompson.
In 1987, John and Terri moved to Washington state. While there, he particularly enjoyed working as the chief of staff to the Lt. Governor as well as serving on the Yelm City Council, planning commission and as mayor pro tem. He had many years of involvement with the Yelm Chamber of Commerce, which included a term as president. In 2006, John became a Washington General. He had a very adventuresome spirit and enjoyed camping, hiking and the outdoors. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on May 28, 2019, at New Life in Christ Lutheran Church, Duncanville, Texas.
