Notable Geologists: Yelm Lecture to Focus on Potential Disasters

Yelm lies in the shadow of Mount Rainier, an active volcano. It also lies near a geological structure that may be a shallow fault.

That’s why The Triad Theater is hosting a roundtable discussion and lecture 7 p.m. Feb. 11 entitled, “Earthquakes and Volcanos: Are You Ready?”

Yelm_Blogger: just because the mayor did not attend this session does not make a "black eye". You are making assumptions here.

Plus, I'd like to add, your beloved "ramtha" character has said for over 30 years that Yelm would be a "safe place" so you could all build your bunkers.
It looks to me the facts speak louder than any false warriors words coming out of a local woman's mouth.

Yelm's Emergency Mgt. coordinator Police Chief Stancil withdrew attending Tuesday afternoon prior to the session. That Mayor Harding and the Yelm City Council concluded their Council Meeting at 6:43pm and not one of them could attend by driving or walking the 3 blocks by a 7pm start was a ""black eye on Harding's 'State of the City' address today, an embarrassment to the community and a slap in the face to the cosponsors, which included this newspaper.

Event organizer Steve Craig took the appropriate measure by placing an empty chair on-stage marked "Yelm" with the other representatives from Pierce & Thurston Counties.
Why does politics under this mayor all-ways trump what is for the advancement of all the citizens welfare?
For Harding to NOT replace Stancil by attending himself or sending his City administrator or any of 7 Council members available 3 blocks away is similar in tactics to NJ Gov. Christie's bullying tactics in his state.

Unfortunately, this IS the "State of the City" as Harding today delivers his address as he embarks with his vision for his 3rd term!

Mr. Harding has made clear he has ambitions for higher public office.
He's going to have to make some changes in his public persona and accessibility to get voters to take him seriously in the rural areas of the County surrounding Yelm, where voters know his modus-operandi well.
