A 43-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were killed in a collision with a semi truck while driving the wrong direction on Interstate 5 near Grand Mound just after midnight on Thursday, according to a Washington State Patrol report.
Prani Sisopha, of Olympia, was driving a 2013 Hyundai Sonata with Travis C. Schuettke, of Tumwater, in the passenger seat and was traveling north on southbound I-5 in the right-hand lane when it collided with a 2016 Volvo Tractor with two trailers connected to it, totalling both vehicles.
Sisopha, who was wearing a seat belt, and Schuettke, who was not wearing a seat belt, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A third car, a 2005 Mazda, was driving in the middle lane and hit debris from both the Hyundai sedan and the Volvo semi truck, too. The Mazda sedan was not totaled from the accident.
Mark A. Cach, 59, of Portland, Oregon, the driver of the Volvo semi truck, and Eric T. Klein, 32, of San Diego, California, the driver of the Mazda sedan, were not injured in the accident. Both Cach and Klein were wearing seat belts.
It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were involved.
The road was closed for more than five hours.
