Edwards, Hendrickson Lead in Yelm School Board Reelection Bids

Yelm Community Schools Board of Directors incumbents Donna Edwards and Denise Hendrickson led after initial results from Tuesday night’s general election, according to initial results posted by Thurston and Pierce county auditor’s offices.

Edwards led challenger Denice Lingle by a total of 1,964 votes to 1,603, according to numbers from both counties. Lingle currently trails her opponent by 10 percentage points, holding 44.4 percent of the vote to Edwards’ 54.4 percent.

Around 2,976 ballots came from Thurston County, while about 634 votes came from Pierce County.

Hendrickson led challenger Charity Aleff in the race for Yelm Community Schools District No. 3 by 2,414 votes to 1,085, according to numbers reported by both counties. Hendrickson held 68.3 percent of the vote Tuesday night compared to Aleff’s 30.7 percent.

For this election, voter turnout hovered around 22.46 percent in Thurston County and at about 21.2 percent in Pierce County.

Rainier School District board members Barry Greenwood, Jerry Sprouffkse and Dana Spivey all led their respective uncontested races.

Election results are set to be certified Tuesday, Nov. 26.
