Drugs or alcohol are believed to have been a factor in an early Saturday crash on State Route 7 that resulted in injuries for a 23-year-old Spanaway man, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Daniel M. Burns, 28, of Spanaway, is expected to be charged with vehicular assault for allegedly being under the influence at the time of the crash, which was reported at about 12:28 a.m., according to the state patrol.
Burns was traveling north near 246th Street Court East in a 2018 Dodge Challenger when he struck the right rear quarter of a southbound 2017 Chevrolet Cruze that was traveling in the center turn lane.
The driver of the Cruze, Steven J. Lindberg, 23, Spanaway, was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center with unspecified injuries.
Burns’ vehicle came to rest 400 feet off the roadway on the southbound side of the highway. Lindberg’s vehicle came to a rest in the center turn lane. The road was blocked for almost seven hours. Both vehicles were totaled.
Troopers cited speed and driving under the influence as the causes for the crash.
