Second-Degree Murder: Yelm Man Makes First Court Appearance in Death of Wife

A 30-year-old Yelm woman is dead and her husband has been booked into jail after a domestic dispute turned deadly at a residence in the Clearwood Community Wednesday night, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched around 8 p.m. to calls of an accidental gunshot wound at a house in the 21900 block of Beachside Drive Southeast, according to Lt. Ray Brady of the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller, a 32-year-old Yelm man, told 911 operators that his wife was involved in an accident with a gun and was shot.

Upon arrival, fire and medical teams attempted life-saving efforts, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Brady said.

“Based on our initial investigation, it does appear that this case is likely a homicide,” Brady said.

Four children, all under 10 years of age, were inside the residence when the gunfire occurred, Brady said. All four are OK physically, but Brady said it was a traumatic situation.

The husband was in custody Wednesday night shortly after the incident and plans were being made to book him into Thurston County Jail by midnight. He could make his first appearance in court as early as Thursday, Brady said.

The names of the woman and suspect were not released.
