An 18-year-old Yelm man was the victim of attempted extortion after sending a video of his genitals to a stranger on the internet, according to the Yelm Police Department.

According to a police report at about 11 p.m. Thursday, May 30, the teen had accepted a friend request on Facebook from a female, or someone posing as a female, at about 6 p.m. that same day. The unknown person began chatting with the victim and asked for him to send a video of himself showing his penis, according to police.

The teen agreed and sent her the video.

A short time later, the female told him that if he didn’t send her $100, she would send the video to his family, a threat she then followed through with by sending the video to several of the victim’s family members.

The person then stopped messaging the victim.

“I advised (him) to contact Facebook and see what they could do in order to block the female from sending photos,” an officer wrote in his report. “Based on the messages I read it appears the woman is fake and not from the U.S. as she indicated. I told (the victim) that he should never send photos of himself over any communication device for this very reason. (He) agreed.”
