I-5 Construction

Travelers irked by snarled traffic last weekend should prepare for another round of long delays as the Washington State Department of Transportation continues to work to replace worn concrete in northbound lanes of Interstate 5 between Lacey and Dupont.

From 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday, one lane will be closed while the open lanes will be narrower than usual with a 35 mile per hour speed limit, according to the WSDOT.

Crews began the project last weekend, with the result being many reports of significant delays and backups on nearby roads as well.

The WSDOT suggests using U.S. Highway 101, State Route 3 or State Route 16 is possible, but cautioned that “there are no good detours.”

“This is a challenging area to do this work, which essentially removes half of the roadway and can only be done during the warmer, drier months,” the WSDOT wrote in a post to social media. “Please plan extra time to get to your destination and be alert and safe around road crews.”
