About 200 individuals crowded the Yelm Community Center to give public comment to the Yelm Homeless Task Force during its last monthly public meeting.

The Yelm Homelessness Task Force will host an open public forum at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, to collect public input before making a recommendation to city council later this year, according to a city press release.

The ad-hoc advisory group is comprised of multiple city staff members and community members, and was formed in November 2018 with the goal of identifying services for the homeless, looking at service gaps and possibly passing a budget line item for a small number of services.

‘Make This Place Uncomfortable for Them:’ Yelm Residents Voice Opposition to Homelessness Services

More than 200 Yelm area residents attended last month’s meeting, resoundingly telling the Task Force that most were not in favor of expanding housing or homeless service needs.

The Oct. 9 meeting will be held in the Yelm Community Center.
