A fraudulent unemployment claim and three fraudulent accounts at SunTrust Bank were opened under a 32-year-old Yelm woman’s name and personal information.
Yelm officers received a call at about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, from the victim.
She told officers she’d received notice through documents sent to her from both institutions. According to a police report, she quickly notified the state Employment Security Department as well as the bank that those accounts were not opened by her.
Ever since the beginning of the coronavirus health and financial crisis, fraudulent claims for unemployment have run rampant. For more information on fraudulent claims, visit www.esd.wa.gov.
