The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office says there’s not enough evidence to charge a 47-year-old woman with vehicular homicide following a fatal crash on Yelm Highway on Saturday, June 29, according to a report by The Olympian.
The crash is still under investigation, but the woman was released on Monday, according to the newspaper.
The 37-year-old man man who died in the crash was identified as Mario Gastelum, an Olympia resident.
The head-on crash occurred at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday, June 29.
According to The Olympian, Gastelum was headed east when his car hit a guardrail before he apparently overcorrected and traveled into the westbound lane. His Kia collided with a Dodge pickup truck in the 8700 block of Yelm Highway Southeast. Investigators say his vehicle was fully in the oncoming lane.
The 47-year-old woman driving the truck was initially arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide because she was allegedly driving under the influence.
According to The Olympian, the Prosecutor’s Office is still awaiting blood test results.
