A failed robbery attempt ended in arrest for a Puyallup man Wednesday in Mossyrock after police say he was confronted mid-vehicle prowl, accidentally gave his gun to the alleged victim when his getaway car wouldn’t start, then push-started his own car.
Jereme J. Ashworth, 31, was booked into the Lewis County Jail for first-degree robbery, second-degree theft, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and first-degree vehicle prowl.
According to a Lewis County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, they received a call from the 100 block of Shaner Road in Mossyrock of a reported robbery. The woman told the responding officer that she saw Ashworth prowling around her car in her driveway and she went out to confront him.
Ashworth attempted to escape in his gold sedan but couldn’t get the car to start, police say.
When the woman continued to confront the man by knocking on his window, he got a bag filled with her possessions and tossed it out to her. The bag also contained the man’s handgun which he was carrying illegally.
Before police arrived, Ashworth push-started his car and left. Eventually, Ashworth was found and arrested at a Mossyrock park boat launch.
