Workers with Culpepper and Merriweather Circus put up the Big Top tent at Yelm City Park Friday morning.

"This year, it's an all-new show that we're bringing into the area," said Leo Acton, who gives tours of the circus set-up in the morning and is the clown during the show. "We have some very traditional circus acts that you'll be expecting to see, but we have some brand-new thrill acts that we've never had in our Big Top before."

The event features a variety of animals, including a lion, tigers, dogs and horses; traditional circus acrobats and artists; and a new attraction called the "Wheel of Destiny," a 26-feet-tall pair of wheels that spin on a center axle. The daredevil brothers The Moralitos use their own body weight to spin the wheels, then do various acrobatic stunts both inside and outside the wheels.

The circus will be bringing two 90-minute shows to Yelm tonight, at 5 and 7:30 p.m. in Yelm City Park. Cost is $13 for adults, $7 for children. The event is sponsored by the Yelm Area Chamber of Commerce. Weather permitting, the circus offers midway rides starting an hour before each performance.

Concession stand food includes cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones and souvenir cups filled with your choice of soda.
