The owner of Farwell's Fine Jewelry in Yelm drew a weapon and halted a would-be robber until police could arrive after the man attempted to steal a ring valued at $2,400 Wednesday afternoon, according to the Yelm Police Department.
“Officers from the Yelm Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Yelm Ave. E. for a report of a male subject being detained in the parking lot suspected of attempting to commit a Robbery at Farwell Jewelers,” according to a press release from the department. “Officers arrived, secured the subject and initiated an investigation. The investigation determined that the male suspect entered Farwell Jewelers, 1202 Yelm Avenue E., and requested to look at a ring valued at approximately $2,400.00. Once the suspect had possession of the ring, he fled out of the business and advised the business owner that he had a gun.”
According to police, the business owner pursued the suspect out of the business and drew his own weapon demanding the suspect to stop.
The suspect displayed what was later determined to be a BB gun pistol, according to police.
The suspect never pointed the gun at the business owner.
“At this time a witness initiated contact with the suspect and assisted in detaining the suspect until law enforcement could arrive,” according to police. “The suspect was taken into custody and was booked into the Thurston County Jail for Robbery. The ring was recovered and available for sale.”
The incident was reported at about 3 p.m.
